Outstanding Graduate Assistants Honored

gazThe Oklahoma State University College of Education honored three graduate assistants for their outstanding work in 2011-12.  One individual from each of the College of Education’s three schools was selected based teaching and service and the group was recognized at a reception in the Anderson Family Willard Living Room on May 4.

Ryan Fiddler, School of Applied Health and Educational Psychology
Ryan Fiddler is pursuing a Ph.D. in Health and Human Performance and has been active as an instructor and researcher in the School of Applied Health and Educational Psychology.  He holds a master’s degree in nutritional sciences from OSU and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Northeastern Oklahoma State University. Fiddler has published a book chapter and four refereed journal articles. He is an external reviewer for several journals and has given numerous presentations at regional and national conferences.  His research interests include both athletic and clinical populations. Fiddler, a Certified Sports Nutritionist, is currently collaborating with the OSU Campus Recreation and Wellness Center to develop and implement an exercise and nutrition intervention for faculty and staff with metabolic syndrome.

Yu-Ling Hsiao, School of Educational Studies
Yu-Ling Hsiao is pursuing a Ph.D in Social Foundations. Hsiao has served as a research assistant in the social foundations program. She has made multiple presentations at conferences during her time at OSU and also co-organized asuccessful Oklahoma Educational Studies Association conference, held at OSU in March 2012. Hsiao earned a Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics from the University of Massachusetts Boston and a Bachelor of Arts in Applied English from Diwan University in Tainan, Taiwan. She has volunteered for the ESL program for Bartlesville Public Schools.

Abena Annan, School of Teaching and Curriculum Leadership
Abena Annan is pursuing a doctoral degree in Professional Education Studies.  Since 2010, she has been a graduate teaching assistant for the ExCEL (Excellence in Collaborative and Experiential Learning) program for preservice elementary teachers. Annan served as Graduate and Professional Student Government Association (GPSA) representative for the School of Teaching and Curriculum Leadership (2008-09). In addition, she has worked with the Randall and Carol White Reading and Mathematics Center, including a stint as coordinator in 2008-2009.  Annan has a master’s degree in Teaching Learning and Leadership from OSU as well as a Bachelor of Arts and Diploma in Education from the University of Cape Coast in Ghana. Annan is a member of the International Reading Association, the Stillwater Literacy Council and the Ghana National Association of Teachers.
