COE Associates

As the Chair of the College of Education (COE) Associates, I urge you to consider joining our group. Donors who provide a gift of $1,000 or more annually or who choose to create an endowment are COE Associates. This donation serves as an investment in our college. Alumni 35 years of age and younger may give $500 annually. Gifts can be directed to any area of the College. All of our Associates share a commitment to ensuring excellence and to assisting the College as state support continues to dwindle. Our group meets twice a year to receive updates on the College from Dean Pamela Fry and to learn more about the exciting things happening in the COE. If you would like to join the Associates, please email Dr. Brenda Solomon at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or call (405) 385-5156.

College of Education Associates Chair Cathy Jameson

The College of Education greatly appreciates the support of generous donors who are making a lasting difference on the College and its students. Some recent gifts for scholarships include:

  • William R. and Billie D. Buckles of Alva provided a gift of $20,000 towards an endowed scholarship to assist students from northwest Oklahoma in becoming teachers. Dr. Brenda Solomon, College of Education, Senior Director of Development, contacted the Buckles regarding a unique opportunity to eventually double their gift. A donor has provided a planned gift to OSU that will match scholarship donations of $50,000 or more. The gift can be pledged over five years and the scholarships must be established prior to October 30, 2010.

Therefore, Mr. and Mrs. Buckles opted to endow a $50,000 scholarship by October 30, 2015. If you are interested in taking advantage of this opportunity, please contact Brenda (405) 385-5156 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

  • Through a planned gift from her estate Dr. Kristin (Harry) Vermillion, Edmond, is honoring three family members with a student scholarship. Vermillion earned her bachelor's degree from OSU in 1968, when she was also named the university's outstanding female athlete. She later completed an Ed.D. in 1983. Vermillion enjoyed a lengthy and successful career as an educator that inspired her to support the College of Education.

The scholarship, which will support a future teacher, is to be named in honor of her parents Robert and Francille Harry and her late husband Jon Vermillion. Robert and Jon are OSU alumni and her mother was an avid fan and supporter of the University.

  • John and Caroline Linehan of Stillwater, Okla., serve the Chair and Co-Chair of the Spears School of Business (SSB) and College of Education (COE) fundraising committees for the OSU Campaign, respectively. Their recent gift of $100,000 pledged over the next five years will support their current scholarship in the COE and establish a new scholarship in the SSB. This gift will qualify for the planned gift scholarship match, and therefore will eventually be doubled.

  • Dr. Jerry Burson, a 2004 College of Education Hall of Fame inductee, and his wife Mary have provided a gift of $25,000 towards their aviation and secondary education-English scholarships. This gift will also be eligible to receive the planned gift scholarship match.

  • Randall and Carol White, both inducted into the College of Education Hall of Fame in 2008, have recently pledged $50,000 towards establishing a new scholarship in Reading and Literacy. This was a high need area in the College with only one of 150 scholarships focused on that area. Their gift will be eligible for the planned gift scholarship match.
