Keeping a Strong Educational Foundation

When Cathy and John Jameson established the Jameson Family Endowed Scholarship in the College of Education in 2005, the couple viewed it as a way to recognize the education they received at Oklahoma State University.

“I am so grateful to the College of Education for being the foundation of my career,” Cathy says.

The elementary education alumna taught for several years before she shifted to consulting. Her teaching experience and background in education, combined with her knowledge of healthcare from helping John establish his dental practice, led her to start Jameson Management Inc., a company that offers business and communication consultation for healthcare professionals.

Jameson Management has provided comprehensive practice management throughout the United States and 26 countries worldwide. Cathy has remained committed to teaching every step of the way.

“I believe one of the reasons my company has been so successful is my background in education,”she says. “Some of the most important people in our lives are educators, including John’s mother, another OSU graduate. We wanted to provide opportunities for students who had a desire to pursue a career in education.”

The Jamesons have decided to do even more to help education students. The couple has committed a $250,000 life insurance planned gift to support the Jameson Family Endowed Scholarship. In addition, they are establishing a new scholarship with a $50,000 gift. The scholarship will honor John’s mother, Dorothy Strong Jameson, and Cathy’s father, Derry B. Ebert.

The new scholarship gift is eligible for a Pickens Legacy Scholarship Match. Through a generous $100 million commitment from T. Boone Pickens, the $50,000 gift will be matched 2:1, bringing the amount applied to the endowment to $150,000.

“Our intention from the beginning was to increase the size of the scholarship when and where that was appropriate,” John says. “There is no question the Pickens Legacy Scholarship Match was a key element in our decision to increase our giving. Knowing that our funds could go further and possibly help more students made us want to make that happen immediately.”

John and Cathy, who currently serves on the OSU Foundation board of trustees, are proud of the quality of education they received at OSU and hope their scholarship gifts will support and inspire College of Education students.
