Belize Doctoral Cohort

Beginning summer 2007, the faculty in Educational Leadership Studies initiated the first Higher Education Belize Doctoral Program. A total of 17 students are enrolled. Following a press conference announcing to all of Belize this first ever on-site doctoral degree opportunity, Steve Wanger and Jesse Mendez traveled to Belize City, Belize to deliver the first two core courses. In subsequent spring and fall semesters, Ed Harris, Bob Nolan, Mwarumba Mwavita, Ken Stern and Adrienne Hyle traveled to Belize to deliver coursework. Students in the program represent the range and breadth of educational institutions in Belize.  If you have questions or wish additional information about this program and the students, please contact Dr. Ed Harris, Belize Cohort Coordinator at 744-7932.

SPED Masters Cohort

The first Special Education Masters cohort began in 2009 and will graduate this summer. The program was designed to be $8,000.00 including books. This allowed teachers who qualified for the Rural Teach Grant to attain this degree at no out-of-pocket expense. The hope of this program was to increase the number of teachers with the unique skills and training necessary to help special needs learners in rural Oklahoman communities. Classes were offered nights and weekends so working teachers could participate. If you have questions or wish additional information about this program and the students, please contact Dr. Chris Ormsbee, SPED Cohort Coordinator at 744-9214.

Math and Science Cohorts

The Math and Science cohorts are pursuing Master's of Science degrees in Teaching, Learning and Leadership.  The program is designed to share teaching knowledge from both disciplines. For example, students take two classes on Monday nights: one is discipline distinct with its emphasis in either Math or Science and the other course is mutual and both groups take the class together. Both disciplines met the criteria for the Oklahoma Rural Teach Grant. Therefore, the program delivery cost to students was designed as a breakeven to make it easier for educators to meet the much needed demand for math and science teachers in Oklahoma. Expected graduation is May 2011. If you have questions or wish additional information about this program and the students, please contact Dr. Juliana Utley, Math and Science Cohort Coordinator at 744-8111.

OKC Masters, EDD School Admin, and EDD Higher Education Cohorts

Beginning fall 2007, higher education faculty began offering degree programs in Educational Leadership Studies in Oklahoma City. What started as one cohort of masters students has grown to six cohorts of both master's and doctoral students. These cohorts in the metropolitan Oklahoma City area were designed to meet the needs of educators without the necessity of travel weekly to the Stillwater campus. Coursework is offered in a hybrid of face-to-face and online. If you have questions or wish additional information about this program and the students, please contact Dr. Steve Wanger at 744-3982, Dr. Kerri Kearney 744-2755 or Dr. Bernita Krumm 744-9445, OKC Cohort Coordinators.
