The Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) is a highly educated and skilled profession specializing in allied health care. In cooperation with physicians and other allied health personnel, the ATC functions as an integral member of the health care team in secondary schools, colleges and universities, sports medicine clinics, professional sports programs, industry and other health care settings.

The Health Promotion program prepares graduates to provide preventative health services in a corporate or community setting or to provide rehabilitative health services in a clinical or hospital setting. Graduates from the Health Promotion degree program are employed in hospital-based fitness centers, wellness centers, in out-patient centers, and in some of the rapidly growing related professions such as medical supply and pharmaceutical sales. Health Promotion majors regularly use this program as preparation for graduate study in medical technology or as physicians assistants.

The leisure profession is a multi-billion dollar industry crossing the public and private sectors. Demand for professionals has increased dramatically in recent years. The Leisure Studies program offers two nationally accredited options.

Physical Education

Physical Education combines two exciting concepts: spending time with students and helping them put together a foundation for movement, personal fitness, and healthy choices that will enhance their lives. Physical Education graduates are prepared for a license to teach K-12 physical education and health and to coach athletics. In addition to teaching, many graduates enter careers in the YMCA and similar agencies where teaching, coaching, and programming professionals are needed.

For those who are interested in a career in teaching, the School of Teaching and Curriculum Leadership offers a Bachelor of Science degree in several areas: elementary education (1-8); secondary education (6-12 in English, mathematics, social studies and science); and foreign language (P-12 in French, German, Spanish). Students who complete one of these programs; passes the Professional Education Portfolio; and passes the state certification examinations in their respective field, meet the requirements for an Oklahoma initial teaching license. Students can also complete the secondary certification program while receiving a degree from the College of Arts and Sciences at OSU.
