What To Expect?

The first session for all clients lasts approximately two hours and is formally known as the intake interview. To begin, there will be several forms the counselor will discuss with you and then a questionnaire for you to fill out.  The counselor will then ask about your concerns and the problems bringing you to counseling along with histories and background information.

All counseling sessions following the intake interview last about 50 minutes to an hour. These sessions will generally be less structured in comparison to the initial intake interview. In general, most clients are seen on a weekly basis.

Note: The intake counselor might not be the same person as the counselor working with the client in the sessions to follow

The Counseling and Counseling Psychology Clinic was established in 1999 by Dr. Donald Boswell. Originally providing marriage and family therapy, the clinic expanded services the following year to include other types of therapy that are currently offered. With the inclusion of these other services, graduate students in Counseling Psychology began their training in the clinic.
