Whisper of the Ocean

Description/Inspiration

"Whisper of the Ocean" is a spring/summer ready-to-wear collection that includes dresses, rompers, skirts, tops, and pants. Inspired by 1950s fashion, the collection gives the wearer both a vintage and modern feel. My collection expresses how people rejoiced in the 50s, upon the return to a joyful and happy life after World War II ended. The purpose of this collection is to provide a more optimistic view of the future, as the world works to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic. "Whispers of the Ocean" is an invitation to emerge from the gloomy and fearful gazes and look towards a fresh season of bright colors.

After Graduation

I am always eager to gain more knowledge in this field. I’m looking forward to utilizing more hands-on experience through an internship to prepare for my career.

High Maintenance

Description/Inspiration

The inspiration behind this line is women. The term “High Maintenance” often carries a negative connotation. It is often a label that gets put on a woman who knows what she wants, goes after it and won’t accept anything less. In this collection, I wanted to embody glamour and opulence but also strength and independence. I was inspired by different music artists, as well as designers such as Mugler, Mackie, and Versace. I want this collection to be fun, and while that may seem simple, I think it’s something a lot of people are lacking right now. To be able to give joy through clothing is a blessing. I have been so blessed to have grown up with some amazing women in my life, so this one’s for the girls.

Accomplishments

  • Worked/coordinated on two Euphoria fashion shows
  • Collaborated with the OKC Zoo
  • Awarded an internship in Prague (Pre-Covid)

After Graduation

If I was asked this question a year ago, I would have said move to New York like every other fashion student. However, this past year has really given me time to reflect and think about what I truly want. The reality is if I go to a big city like New York or L.A., there’s going to be millions of people doing exactly what I’m doing. However, if I stay here, I can initiate change myself. I plan to turn Oklahoma City, Tulsa or Norman into the next fashion city. What? Like it’s hard?

Summa Cum Laude

Description/Inspiration

My collection “Summa Cum Laude” is inspired by activewear, tech wear, and generally things that I find interesting or have the urge to pursue. My collection is me, as raw and as stripped down as I can get. That’s the best way to explain most things I do.

  • Create music for myself, my band, and collaborate with OKC and Tulsa artists
  • Head Music Chair and DJ for Euphoria Fashion Show in 2019

Atardecer al Amanecer

Description/Inspiration

“Atardecer al Amanecer” is a collection that tells a color story of the colors seen from dusk to dawn and draws major inspiration from the romantic culture and nightlife of Spain. A part of my inspiration came from my personal heritage and Latina background, and through this I wanted to express and empower others to celebrate the beauty of Spanish culture. When I created this collection, I had a vision of a woman out on the town in Spain, strolling and freely dancing through dim lit streets as she makes her way to the beach, from dusk to dawn. This woman embraces and takes in the colors, culture and beauty of Spain, which encapsulates this collection.

  • Accepted an internship for Product Development/Design at Kohls

After Graduation: Following graduation, I have accepted an offer to work for Kohl’s as a Product Development/Design Intern.

Kaleidoscope

Description/Inspiration

My line is inspired by the growth I've seen from everyone in my life as well as myself. Butterflies historically symbolize growth, and a group of butterflies is called a Kaleidoscope. Chaos Theory is another huge inspiration of mine. It states that something as simple as the flutter of a butterfly wing could ultimately cause a hurricane on the opposite side of the world. This Butterfly Effect can be taken literally and metaphorically, and it explains that in life you shouldn't be scared of causing a hurricane. Things are meant to happen, and you control your own future. All of this inspiration is shown in my collection through details that can start out as one thing in the beginning and morph into something oppositional by the end. The line features rich, earthy tones as well as my pattern that is a literal Kaleidoscope, which I designed from one of my paintings of the Painted Lady Butterfly.

Accomplishments

  • AATCC Chemists & Colorists Chapter President
  • Member of Phi Upsilon Omicron Honor Society
  • VP of Finance for Delta Delta Delta
  • Euphoria Fashion Show member, 2019

After Graduation

I am very passionate about so many different areas of the fashion industry such as textiles, creative and technical design, so I am still trying to determine where to start. Overall, I think the best place for me would be somewhere I can work with a team doing consultations to bring people's dreams to life.

Name of Line

French Press

Description/Inspiration

My line "French Press" took inspiration from the French culture and their everyday wear. I have always loved how a more sophisticated look is the norm for everyday French streetwear, as opposed to a more grunge-style streetwear in America. I tend to have a very minimalistic design style and I think that definitely is reflected in my collection, along with my favorite neutral colors which consist of many creams and tans.

Accomplishments

  • College of Education and Human Sciences Ambassador
  • Nominated for Senior of Distinction through the College of Education and Human Sciences

After Graduation Right now, my plan is to move to New York and find a job. I don't know how long I will be out there, but the main reason I want to go is so that I can continue learning more about the industry.

How Did We Get Here?

Description/Inspiration

Inspired by the late 90s and early 2000s styles of Destiny's Child meets Spice Girls, my collection represents trips around the world with friends and the memories we will continue to create. Defining color within a gray year, this knit collection is for empowered females focusing on living their best lives. This collection would have never existed without my main inspiration, Bad Bunny, and his latest album, El Último Tour del Mundo.
