Foreign Language Education Student Fisher Defends Honors Thesis
Tuesday, December 15, 2015
Victoria Fisher, a senior studying foreign language education, successfully defended and presented her Honors Thesis, “Teaching Spanish Heritage and Language Learners in the P-12 Mixed Classroom”, earlier this month.
Fisher, who was selected as an OSU Senior of Significance for 2015-16, explored the topic of teaching Spanish heritage language learners in the Spanish classroom with both heritage language learners and second language learners. The contents, including a literature review, applications for teachers, and implications for further study, are directed toward the question: How would a teacher meet the unique needs of Spanish heritage language learners in a course that teaches Spanish as a foreign language?
Dr. Elvira Sanatullova-Allison, an associate professor and program coordinator for foreign language/ESOL education in the College of Education, advised Fisher’s thesis and Dr. Matthew O’Neill of the department foreign languages served as faculty reader.
