OSU College of Education Recognizes Top 10 Seniors for 2016

STILLWATER (April 1, 2015) – The Oklahoma Sate University College of Education has announced its Top 10 Seniors for 2016.  The honored students represent elementary and secondary education, health education and promotion, therapeutic recreation and aerospace administration and operations.

Selected by the Student Affairs Committee, these students have demonstrated exceptional qualities of leadership, academic excellence, and service. Recipients must have completed 90 or more credit hours, 24 of which must be at OSU, and be eligible to graduate during the 2016 calendar year. These students will be recognized on Friday, May 6 during the College of Education Excellence Awards reception. Honored students are:

Abdulraheem “Raheem” Mahboub is graduating Summa Cum Laude in May with a Bachelor of Science Aerospace Administration and Operations, option in Technical Service Management. He also completed minors in Aerospace Security and Professional Pilot. While at OSU, Mahboub has served as a tutor for international students in aviation, been a leader with the Saudi Student Association and is a professional singer, songwriter and melodist. He is involved with the OSU Tennis Club and a member of the Islamic Society of Stillwater.

Shannon Cotton is slated to graduate in May with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Education and Promotion, option in Exercise and Health. While at OSU, Cotton has been an ambassador for the Service Learning Volunteer Center, a member of the College of Education Student Council and in the Pre-Health and Health Education and Promotion Clubs. She is a founding colony member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority and has completed more than 400 hours of community service volunteering with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, the Oklahoma Blood Institute, Cowboy Walking Trails, Bike MS, Cowboys with Compassion Food Drives and the Oklahoma Wondertorium, Cotton has also served as a peer educator with Share the WEALTH Program.

Robinson Clower is graduating in May with a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education Mathematics and a Bachelor of Arts in German. Clower has been a member of the Oklahoma State Symphony Orchestra, president of the German Club, and vice president of the 1 in 4 Men’s chapter, which gives presentations on sexual assault and prevention. He serves on the board for Oklahoma Odyssey of the Mind and is involved with Stillwater Creativity Boosters. Clower has worked as a private tutor for students in sixth grade subjects through calculus, college physics and history as well as an online tutor for students of the German language. He studied abroad at the Humboldt University of Berlin. Clower was chosen as an OSU Senior of Significance.

Kate Duethmann will graduate in May with a Bachelor of Science in Recreational Therapy. While at OSU, Duethman has served as president of the Pre-Occupational Therapy Student Association, been a member of the Catholic Student Association, Recreation Therapy Club, Turning Point Horse Therapy Program, Al’s Pals Outreach and Best Buddies Organization. She is also a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and the Phi Kappa Phi honor society.  Duethman has worked at the Hampton Inn & Suites and at the Marble Slab Creamery.

Victoria Fisher will graduate in May with a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education, Foreign Language: Spanish option. While at OSU, Fisher has served as president of Sigma Delta Pi Spanish Honor Society, vice president of Christians on Campus, and as an International Student Bible study leader. She studied abroad in Oaxaca, Mexico as well as completed a service-learning course to the Colegio Mariá del Rosario for international teaching experience and completed an honors thesis. Fisher has volunteered with numerous Christian ministries on campus and in her hometown through the summers. She was also chosen an OSU Senior of Significance. 

Katherine Konstans is scheduled to graduate this summer with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Education and Promotion, Option in Exercise and Science. , Konstans has served as president of the Orthodox Christian Fellowship, a recruitment counselor for Panhellenic, the career and personal development committee and intramural sports chair for Chi Omega Fraternity and was a member of the pre-health community. A student in the OSU Honors College, Konstans has participated in research, writing an Honors Theisis titled “The Effects of Exercise on Cognition.” Konstans has also volunteered for Early Head Start in Stillwater for the last four years. 

Whitnee Konwinski is slated to graduate in May with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education.  While at OSU, Konwinski has served as a community president of Drummond Hall, a prayer group leader with Sigma Phi Lambda, was a charter member of Kappa Delta Pi and served as a host for The Table Bible study group. She has also been a member of the Student Oklahoma Education Association, Kappa Kappa Iota, Elementary Educators of Tomorrow and Residential Life Government Association. Konwinski has also served the community through Sunnybrook Christian Church, Into the Streets, Big Event and Freeway.

Courtney Pool is slated to graduate in December with a Bachelor of Science in Recreation Management and Therapeutic Recreation.  While at OSU, Pool has been a leadership mentor for the OSU Housing and Residential Life group, reporter for the Recreational Therapy Majors Club, board member for the Pre-Occupational Therapy Student Association, project coordinator for the Service Learning Volunteer Center Ambassadors and a certified residential leader for the Residential Leadership College. She has also been involved with Rho Phi Lambda (recreation honor fraternity), the Therapeutic Recreation Association of Oklahoma and the American Therapeutic Recreation Association as well as a member of OSU’s Paddle People and on the Homecoming Big Committee-Residential Life. Pool has served her community with more than 550 hours at the Family Resource Center, with Turning Point Ranch, Renaissance Assisted Living Facility, Bike MS Event, Stillwater Community Center, Judith Karman Hospice Resale Shop and many other organizations.

Garrett Quinby is slated to graduate in May with a Bachelor of Science Aerospace Administration and Operations, option in Professional Pilot, and a minor in Ethical Leadership. Quinby was also chosen as one of 15 OSU Outstanding Seniors for 2016. While at OSU, Quinby has been a facilitator for the President’s Leadership Council, served in four officer positions with Flying Aggies, as a university board member for the Oklahoma Pilots Association, as community president and senator for Hall Government and as vice president of the National Intercollegiate Flying Association. He has also been a member of Alpha Eta Rho, Eagle Heights Baptist Church and the Sea Plane Pilots Association. He has served the community for more than 470 hours through these organizations as well as with Into the Streets, SGA Sustainability, Oklahoma Blood Institute and the Oklahoma FFA.

Jared Wheeler is graduating in May with a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education Social Studies and a Master’s degree in Special Education through the 4+1 program. While at OSU, Wheeler has been involved with Freshman Representative Council, Junior Greek Life, Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, Interfraternity Council, Student Government Association and Dance Marathon. He has served the community with OSU Toys for Cowboys, Kaleo Christian program, Make Promises Happen, OSU Homecoming and Fiji Christmas Cup to benefit USO.
