Wednesday, October 25, 2017
OSU alumna Kyalla Bowens was recently named the principal of a brand new campus in Duncanville, Texas and has served students since graduating from OSU in 1999.
Bowens served as a 1st and 2nd grade teacher in Stillwater Public Schools before moving to Texas and serving as a 5th grade teacher, instructional specialist and assistant principal for Duncanville ISD. She currently serves as principal of the new Acton Elementary School in Duncanville.
After her many successes, Bowens says that her experiences at OSU and within the College of Education, Health and Aviation have contributed to her leadership today as an instructional leader.
“It’s from having a strong foundation in teaching and curriculum and instruction that allows me to collaborate with teachers to ensure each student has a quality instructional day.”
Bowens received both her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education in 1996 and her Master’s Degree in Curriculum Instruction in 1999 from OSU. She later decided to pursue her Principal Certification from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2006.
