Faculty Receive Awards for Excellence

Faculty Awarded at Excellence Reception

Five College of Education, Health and Aviation faculty members received awards at the annual EHA Excellence Awards reception on May 11 in recognition of excellence in research, international education, leadership and service, graduate student involvement and teaching. 

“These faculty members play an integral role in the success of the college through research, service, mentorship and academic instruction,” said John Romans, dean of the College of Education, Health and Aviation. “We are grateful for their contributions.”

Dr. Julie Croff, associate professor in health education and promotion, received the Research Excellence Award. Croff was recognized for her distinguished research on measuring health behaviors among adolescent girls by collecting and analyzing detailed sleep measurements of study participants to help identify the interplay of alcohol use, diet and sleep.

Recipient of the International Education Excellence Award was Dr. Katherine Curry, associate professor in school administration. The award was presented in recognition of Dr. Curry’s partnership with the EHA International Studies Office, including international teaching, research and outreach programs and activities.

The Leadership and Service Excellence Award was presented to Dr. Chad Depperschmidt, associate professor in aviation and space. Depperschmidt was chosen because of his significant achievements in leadership and service within the college.

Dr. Tonya Hammer, associate professor in counseling and counseling psychology, received the Graduate Faculty Excellence Award in recognition of her outstanding achievement and professional involvement with graduate students.  

The Teaching Excellence Award was presented to Dr. Sheri Vasinda, associate professor in reading and literacy education, for her devotion to high quality instruction and commitment to enhancing the student learning experience.
