Secondary Education Certifications
Prospective students have three options for earning secondary certification:
- Bachelor of Science with emphasis in specific content area.
- Master of Science in Teaching, Learning and Leadership with option in Secondary Education for Teachers Non-Traditionally Certified or Seeking Initial License.
- Certification only.
Earn a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education
Undergraduate students interested in pursuing secondary education certification may do so through the Bachelor’s in Science in Secondary Education. Students will declare their major in the College of Education and will complete the degree program as outlined on the specific content area degree sheet.
Earn a Master’s Degree in Teaching, Learning and Leadership
This program is designed for students who already have a Bachelor’s degree in a secondary content area and wish to obtain full certification. Students must be eligible for admission to the Graduate College and to the Teaching, Learning and Leadership Program. Students must also meet all subject area content requirements for certification. Completion of the full 36-hour program which includes a semester of full-time student teaching is required.
This non-degree program is designed for teachers who have an undergraduate degree in a secondary content area and wish to obtain certification in a secondary area. This program offers a comprehensive and intensive curriculum that meets state and national standards. This plan requires students to complete a semester of full-time student teaching.
