Faculty Professional Development: 10 Hour Rule

A "Professional Education faculty member" is defined as a full-time or part-time faculty member whose primary position is to teach professional education courses but who may also supervise field experiences.

The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education set forth rules specifically for educator preparation. The Oklahoma Commission for Teacher Preparation ensures adherence to these rules. The Guidelines for Teacher Preparation Faculty (OSRHE Policy 3.21.6 and OCTP Requirement #9) read:

Faculty Professional Development

Units have an active system in place documenting and reporting the annual

professional development activities of all teacher education faculty members.

All full-time teacher education faculty members directly involved in the teacher

education process, including all administrators of teacher education programs, are

required to serve in a state accredited public school for at least ten (10) clock hours

per school year in direct contact with meaningful and relevant responsibilities related

to their respective teacher education fields.
