Dr. Jennifer Sanders is an Associate Professor of Literacy Education at Oklahoma State University. Dr. Sanders earned a Ph.D. in Language, Literacy, and Culture, along with a reading endorsement, from the University of Florida and teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on a wide range of topics including reading instruction, language arts, literacy assessment, childrens literature, primary literacy, and the intersections of language, literacy, and culture. Previously, she taught preschool and elementary grades one and two, and she has spent significant time as a researcher in grades four through six. Her current research focuses on quality writing instruction, writing center pedagogy, representations of diversity in childrens literature, and teachers professional development in areas of literacy. She is the co editor of a book on multiliteracies titled Literacies, the Arts, and Multimodality. Her work in multicultural childrens literature includes service as former chair of the Notable Books for a Global Society Award Committee. She is also the Director of the Randall and Carol White Reading and Math Center in which education majors provide tutoring to children in literacy and math.
