TEACHING AND CURRICULUM LEADERSHIP
Dr Wang is a quantitative researcher and her research mainly focuses on the language and literacy development of English-speaking children, bilingual children, English Language Learners (ELLs), and Chinese-speaking children. I have examined metalinguistic and cognitive predictors of reading success in these populations. Specifically, I have studied the visual, phonological, morphological, and orthographical processes in vocabulary, word reading, and reading comprehension. My research takes a cross-cultural and cross-linguistic comparative perspective, comparing the literacy development of children from different language backgrounds and from different language learning environments. It aims at both generating reading theories and enhancing reading instruction.
