Recreation Management/Recreational Therapy Clubs

The Recreation Management Majors Club is a recognized Oklahoma State University organization focused on providing professional development and social opportunities to both undergraduate and graduate students. The Club has monthly business meetings and socials. Additionally, the Club participates in several community service projects. During the OSU Homecoming festivities, the Club hosts games and activities for the College of Education Homecoming Picnic. For the past few years, the Club has hosted the highlighted games at the City of Stillwater Downtown Halloween Festival. In 2009, over 2000 people attended the festival. Recreation Management/Recreational Therapy Rho Phi Lambda Alpha Kappa Chapter Overview

The Alpha Kappa Chapter of Rho Phi Lambda is the Oklahoma State University chapter of the national honorary Recreation, Park, and Recreation Management/Recreational Therapy fraternity.

The purpose of the Alpha Kappa Chapter of Rho Phi Lambda is to recognize outstanding students in the Recreation Management/Recreational Therapy program, to encourage professional development, to foster the development of professional relationships and friendships among the students in the profession, and to recognize those making outstanding contributions to the field.

The mission of the Alpha Kappa Chapter of Rho Phi Lambda is to honor deserving students, recognize outstanding work in the field, and be leaders in community service. As such, the Chapter has hosted numerous professional development workshops for the students at OSU including First Aid, CPR, lifeguard, and instructor workshops. The Chapter has partnered with the Leisure Majors Club to host games and activities for the College of Education Homecoming Picnic and the City of Stillwater Downtown Halloween Festival.

To be a member of the Alpha Kappa Chapter of Rho Phi Lambda, persons must be nominated for consideration. All nominees must meet the qualifications set by the national and chapter constitutions and by-laws. After the Faculty Advisor confirms that the nominee meets the qualifications, the nominee’s materials are distributed to the active chapter members for review and vote.

Qualifications for consideration of membership include:

1.     Have completed a minimum of 45 semester hours or be of second semester sophomore status or higher.
2.     Have completed in residence a minimum of 9 hours credit in courses of departmental offerings.
3.     Meet grade point average requirements:

a.     Undergraduates:

  • Students must rank in the upper 15% of overall grade point average for all Leisure Studies students of Oklahoma State University, or have a minimum overall grade point average of 3.0.
  • Students must rank in the upper 15% of Leisure Studies students at Oklahoma State University, or have a minimum grade point average of 3.2 in major courses.

b.     Graduate:

  • Students must have a minimum grade point average of 3.5
  • Students must have completed 9 semester hours.

4.     Have substantial evidence or documentation of outstanding leadership.
5.     Have substantial evidence or documentation of outstanding service to the program, campus, community, and or profession.
6.     Meet all requirements specified in the by-laws.
