The Oklahoma State University College of Education and Human Sciences invites you to explore pathways for improving the health of others during Health Preview Day on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Through an exciting day of speakers, breakout sessions, connection opportunities and tours, you’ll discover the purposeful ways careers in health care can make a difference in the well-being of individuals, families and communities.

KEYNOTE ADDRESS

 

Striving to Improve the Health of Others with Passion and Purpose

Carol Quijada, a Nutritional sciences alumna and third-year medical student at Oklahoma State University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine, will share her story of challenges and opportunities and that will inspire you to live and work with passion and purpose as you prepare for your future in health care.

Get a Taste of Nutritional Sciences

Eating your oatmeal can help with a stroke?  As we walk through the case of our stroke patient, Parsley Pete, come find out: what symptoms do they have, what do we do to treat it, why did it happen, and what could we do to prevent it – all through the lens of food.

 

Family Health... It Matters!

Family life shapes every aspect of health, including physical, mental, and relational health. Discover how individuals and families shape health behaviors, health access, and overall relationship well-being across the human life span. Using activities inspired by the game of "LIFE", learn how OSU’s faculty in Human Development and Family Science lead cutting edge research and community programs in both prevention and intervention.

Healing from Play

Ever heard of recreational therapy? Experience what it is like to be a practicing recreational therapist, and learn about how you could work alongside faculty to discover more about the healing powers of recreational interventions as a student at OSU.

 

Public Health Hackathon: Wicked Problems

Public health problems can be wicked! What would you do to resolve them? Team up with other session attendees to speed 'hack' a wicked public health problem. You’ll work together to use creative and critical thinking, synthesis of information, and teamwork to beat the clock, solve a difficult health challenge, and prevent a negative community health impact.

 

The Life of a Nursing Student

The nursing profession is full of possibilities for learning and career growth! Learn about the courses and clinical experiences in OSU’s BSN program, tour the current lab space, and take part in a demonstration of nursing skills training with lab manikins. Nursing faculty will also provide insight into the diversity of nursing specialties across the profession.
