Maximizing Physical Health

Undergraduate and graduate degrees
Our academic programs areas include applied exercise science, health and human performance, leisure studies, recreation management and recreational therapy. We provide a distinctive learning experience with a focus on hands-on learning and mentorship, allowing our graduates to successfully enter into the health and exercise profession or pursue graduate or professional school.

Research and Service

Gain practical experience working with expert faculty to conduct innovative research within our state-of-the-art facilities or take part in service-learning opportunities.

Applied Neuromuscular Physiology Lab

Our students have opportunities to perform high-quality research using state-of-the-art technology to investigate physiological changes related to aging, training, fatigue, disease and more.

Human Performance Lab

Student collaborate with faculty to perform applied research aimed at improving overall health, fitness and performance across the lifespan.

Musculoskeletal Adaptations to Aging and Exercise Lab

The Musculoskeletal Adaptations to Aging and Exercise (MAAX) Lab researches innovative ways to improve strength by targeting bone, muscle and nerve health across the lifespan.

Tactical Fitness and Nutrition Lab

This collaborative endeavor with the Department of Nutritional Sciences provides health, fitness and performance support for first responders and military personnel. 

Warm Water Therapy Lab

Each semester, students in the recreational therapy program provide warm water therapy to preschool children and adolescents with disabilities.

Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Assistance Center

For more than 25 years, we have served as a state resource for recreation, parks, leisure services and related activities, including tourism in recreation settings.

Our recreational therapy program is the only such degree program in Oklahoma and is accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Recreational Therapy Education (CARTE).
