Dietetic Internship

Dietetic Internship Students and Faculty

The Oklahoma State University Dietetic Internship Program is housed in the Department of Nutritional Sciences (NSCI) in the College of Education and Human Sciences at Oklahoma State University - Stillwater.  Our program has been granted continuing accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, 120 South Riverside Plaza, Suite 2190, Chicago, IL, 60606-6995, 312-899-0040 ext. 5400, until 2021 to accept up to 24 interns per year. In January 2018, ACEND approved the OSU Dietetic Internship to become a combined MS/DI program with an emphasis area of NUTRITION RESEARCH or PUBLIC HEALTH.

Upon successful completion of both the Master’s Degree and 1200 hours of supervised practice required by the Dietetic Internship, interns are eligible to sit for the examination to become a Registered Dietitian (RD) which is administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.  Once registered, the individual is eligible to apply for licensure in their practice state, if applicable. 5-Steps to becoming an RD. 

  1. Complete a bachelor's degree and receive a verification statement from an ACEND-accredited program. Note, effective January 1, 2024, a graduate degree will be required to be eligible to take the Commission on Dietetic Registration Exam.
  2. Complete an ACEND-accredited supervised practice experience.
  3. Pass the Commission on Dietetic Registration's dietetic registration exam. 
  4. Gain licensure in your state of practice, if applicable.
  5. Maintain continuing education.

The Oklahoma State University’s Dietetic internship can provide step 2 along with an advanced degree as stated in step one will be needed starting 2024.
