What is secondary education?
This major is for students interested in teaching a particular subject in grades 6-12. Subject areas include, English, social studies or foreign language. There is also a K-12 art education certification. For mathematics and the sciences, see OSUTeach below.
Why secondary education at OSU?

Our education graduates are highly sought after by school leaders and hiring officials in Oklahoma and other states who recognize the high quality of OSU graduates. Our students enter the classroom with extensive and relevant practical experience.

The program, a collaboration between the College of Education and Human Sciences and the College of Arts and Sciences, offers secondary teacher certification options for degrees in biological science, chemistry, geology, mathematics and physics. The OSUTeach degrees allows students to earn full teaching certification without added time or cost. Preparation includes clinical experiences in elementary, middle and high school classrooms under the guidance of master teachers.

Students participate in multiple field experiences throughout their curriculum. Observation hours are completed during the junior and senior years in rural and urban school settings. During the final semester before graduation, students have an internship to teach within a 75-mile radius of Stillwater, or they can participate in student teaching abroad.
Student Teaching Abroad
Students have the opportunity to take their student teaching experience abroad, either to Costa Rica or Mexico. The goal of the 15-week international internship program is to expand the personal and professional experience of students to enrich their global perspective as teachers.
