Tara Brown
Tara received her Bachelor of Science from the Oklahoma State University College of Human Environmental Sciences.  After an extensive career in the Older Americans Act Nutrition Program, Tara joined the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service family in October 2013.  Her Issue Teams in Jefferson County include Health and Hunger, and Risky Behaviors.

Tara works with a four-county team of Checks and Balance (formerly Making Sense of Money Management) as well as working with the following programs:

  • Oklahoma Home & Community Education
  • Co-Parenting for Resilience – a class for parents going through a divorce
  • Community Nutrition Education Program
  • 4-H Youth Development
  • County Libraries’ Summer Reading Programs
  • Nutrition Education for a group of Cross Country Track members
When statistics showed Jefferson County ranked as the unhealthiest county in our state, Tara partnered with the County Health Department and Turning Point to plan and implement Jefferson County Health Fair and Community Outreach.  Summer workshops for youth have included sewing, Art Therapy, Babysitting, and recycling.  She has provided Nutrition Education Programs and Science programs to Ringling and Waurika Summer Reading programs.
Tara is excited and blessed to be a part of the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension team.  Her mother, both grandmothers, both great-grandmothers and an aunt were very active in Extension (Home Extension Clubs) and her father was a Vocational Agriculture teacher. She fondly remembers her years as a 4-H member and the various activities she participated in as well as assisting her grandparents on their farms and attending the “Club” meetings with her grandmothers. Who knew that a family friend who retired as an “Home Economist” in another state and a dear friend currently in OCES would help inspire Tara to a career in Extension! Tara enjoys working with groups and individuals of all ages and her duties in Jefferson County Cooperative Extension include FCS Educator and 4-H Youth Development.
