Lela O’Toole International Speaker Series
The Dean Lela O’Toole International Speaker Series was established by the former College of Human Sciences in 1995. It focuses on timely and relevant topics related to public policy, ethics, and international issues in the scholastic areas of the college. Lela O’Toole served as dean of the College of Human Sciences from 1951-1975. She believed that universities play an important role in the conduct of international and world affairs.

The focus this year will be on UN Sustainable Goals of Quality Education, Gender Equality and Zero Hunger. Title: Implementation of AI

Details: This session will provide important insight from district, building, and classroom leaders who have implemented the artificial intelligence platform, Khanmigo, in math classes in their districts. These leaders will share their experiences with AI including their vision for AI use, opportunities provided by AI, as well as challenges they have faced. Khan Academy representatives will provide insight about goals and possibilities of AI for transforming education in K-12 schools and the types of data and resources provided through AI that can enhance student learning and support teacher success.

Details: This presentation delves into the nuanced world of body image in trans and gender nonconforming (GNC) individuals and cisgender men. We'll explore societal influences, mental health implications, and unique challenges faced by trans and GNC individuals in their quest for self-acceptance. Simultaneously, we'll spotlight evolving narratives and societal pressures shaping body image in cisgender men, challenging stereotypes. This brief but impactful session aims to foster understanding and empathy while considering intersectional factors like race and culture in these diverse body image experiences.

Title: Tour of OSU Student Farm

Details: The OSU Student Farm is a project to rebuild the land with a mission to feed the community in a sustainable way and provide access to produce including broccoli, spinach, lettuce, onions and more. The Student Farm also utilizes buried irrigation to prevent water waste.

Details: In this symposium, Health, Education, and Rural Empowerment (HEaRE) lab researchers present their scholarship related to health promotion for gender diverse people at various developmental stages and in a variety of settings. The presenters pose the question, "What does gender affirmation look like across key contexts and developmental milestones?" Paper topics include perspectives on gender-affirming parenting, families, education, sport, clinical care, and social connections.
