This scholarship supports students enrolled in the inaugural cohort of the new Graduate Certificate in Teacher Development, Conflict Transformation, and Compassionate Education. The program is designed for teachers seeking to renew their passion for teaching while cultivating the knowledge, skills, and capacities needed for conflict transformation and compassionate education. Both educators’ self-compassion and compassion for students are central focuses of the program, rooted in interconnectedness, nonviolence, and a commitment to transforming conflict and tensions for student success.

The certificate requires 12 graduate credit hours (four courses). These credits are transferable toward the MS and PhD degrees in Curriculum Studies.

The Inaugural Cohort at OSU-Tulsa

The inaugural cohort will begin in Spring 2027. Students will complete one graduate course each semester over four semesters. All courses will be offered in a hybrid format:

• CIED 5823 Mindfulness, Teaching and Curriculum
• CIED 5563 Learning and Living the Wisdom of Peace
• CIED 5453 Infusing Aesthetics Across the Curriculum
• CIED 6153 Curriculum of Nonviolence

Tuition and Fees

This scholarship will cover half of each student’s tuition (including fees) for all four courses. The scholarship is available to up to 20 students.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must submit:

• A Graduate College application
• Official transcripts demonstrating completion of a minimum of a bachelor’s degree
• An academic vita or résumé
• An application statement of approximately 500 words addressing the following questions, as relevant:
  • Why are you interested in this program?
  • How do you plan to use the certificate program to enrich your educational work?
  • Are you interested in pursuing a master’s or doctoral degree after completing the certificate program?
  • At the end of the statement, please state whether you are applying for this scholarship. 

Continuing Eligibility Requirements

Students who receive the scholarship are expected to maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA each semester. Students who do not meet this requirement may lose their scholarship.
