STLES’s vision is to develop outstanding educators who have the confidence and competence to be leaders, advocates and agents of changes in the global education community.
In the School of Teaching, Learning and Educational Sciences (STLES) we employ and model authentic, engaging methods and innovative, collaborative practices to develop scholars, especially teachers and teacher educators, who are transformative leaders and reflective practitioners adept at using creative and effective methods of teaching to foster just and productive communities.
OSU College of Education, Health and Aviation student and future science teacher, Katie Mueller (above) discusses her research poster during an NSF Research Experiences for Teachers (RET) presentation at OSU this summer. The RET program pairs pre-service and in-service teachers who conduct research at OSU, mentored by a faculty member and use the experience to prepare science lesson plans for students. Mueller will join her RET partner Kayla Thornhill, a Jenks Middle School teacher, in Thornhill’s classroom to mentor students.
The OSU Writing Project has hosted camps, workshops and projects this summer, helping teachers to learn new ways to teach writing, enhance their leadership and collaborate with colleagues to ensure students become successful writers and learners. (more)
Dr. Becky Hammack, a middle school science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) teacher and OSU alumna, was selected to be a member of the 2017-18 Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellowship Program. (more)
