Public Health Undergraduate Internships


Public health students must complete an internship during their senior year, which provides on-site job experience in health-related settings.

 

Pre-Internship Seminar

Students are required to take the Pre-Internship Seminar (HLTH 4902) to help prepare them for the internship required to complete their degree.

 

  • Important Student Information
    • Rising seniors must complete this application to request enrollment.
    • Students must have a 2.75 retention GPA, a 2.75 major GPA and a 2.75 college/departmental GPA to take the course.
    • Students who intend to enroll in the spring must submit the application by the last day of fall classes.
    • Students who intend to enroll in the fall must submit the application by the last day of spring classes.
    • Applications submitted after the posted deadlines must be accompanied by written justification for special review

Pre-Internship Seminar Application

 

Students who intend to enroll in the spring must submit the application by the last day of fall classes. Students who intend to enroll in the fall must submit the application by the last day of spring classes.


Applications submitted after the posted deadlines must be accompanied by written justification for special review.

 

Internship Application

Students must participate in supervised fieldwork in a professional setting to graduate and it can be completed during the last semester of their senior year. There is a 12-credit hour course attached to the internship and it is offered during the fall, spring and summer semesters.

 

  • Important Student Information
    • Students must have a 2.75 retention GPA, a 2.75 major GPA and a 2.75 college/departmental GPA to enroll in the internship course.
    • The internship should provide a learning environment consistent with the roles and responsibilities of a health educator as outlined by The National Commission for Health Education Credentialing.
    • Students must provide at least 400 hours of service to their internship site during the semester.
    • The internship should be related directly to each student’s career objectives and be consistent with the preparation received in the degree program.
    • Students are not permitted to accumulate hours until officially enrolled in internship.
    • Students must submit the application by the last day of final exams of the semester prior to their internship.
      • For late enrollment, students must submit the application by the Wednesday before classes start of the semester they plan to take internship.
    • Applications submitted after the posted deadlines must be accompanied by written justification for special review.
  • What You Need to Submit
    • Appendix A from the Internship Guide
    • Signed (fully executed) copies of Appendix B and Appendix C from the Internship Guide
      • Appendix B must be signed by the student, site supervisor, and Pre-internship Instructor
      • Appendix C must be signed by the student
    • Copy of current CPR/First Aid certification cards (front and back) or certificate
      • Certifications cannot expire before the end of the internship enrollment term.
    • Approved site rationale (completed during HLTH 4902)

 

Internship Application

 

For standard enrollment in Internship (HLTH 4770, 4880, or 4990), students must submit the application by the last day of final exams of the semester prior to their internship.


For late enrollment in internship (HLTH 4770, 4880, or 4990), students must submit the application by the Wednesday before classes start of the semester they plan to take internship.


Applications submitted after the posted deadlines must be accompanied by written justification for special review.
