Interior Design Accreditation

The interior design program leading to the interior design degree is accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation, www.accredit-id.org, 206 Grandville Avenue, Suite 350, Grand Rapids, MI, 49503.

 

The CIDA-accredited program prepares students for entry-level interior design practice, for advanced study, and to apply for membership in professional interior design organizations. The interior design degree granted by Oklahoma State University meets the educational requirement for eligibility to sit for the National Council for Interior Design Qualification Examination (NCIDQ Exam). For more information about NCIDQ Exam eligibility visit:

Program Mission

To contribute to the advancement of professionalism in the interior design field through the development of skilled entry-level interior designers promoting health, safety, welfare and innovation in the built environment.

 

The philosophical base for the Interior Design Program rests upon a multi-disciplinary education that includes accounting, anthropometry, biomechanics, business, computer-based technical expertise, creative design, environmental design, human factors and ergonomics, textiles and visual and oral communication to prepare students for a professional career in interior design. Quality interior design provides increased opportunity to strengthen and improve human beings' relationship with their environments and to enhance their quality of life. Health, safety and welfare components are emphasized. The program promotes an understanding of sustainability, inclusion, human activities across the life course, mobility, social interaction, psychology, cultural differences and university general education courses in history, art history, philosophy and literature.

American Apparel and Footwear Association Affiliation

Oklahoma State University’s Department of Design and Merchandising (DHM) continues its longstanding tradition with an affiliation recognition from the American Apparel and Footwear Association (AAFA). OSU is one of only 13 institutions to receive the affiliation status.

 

OSU has been endorsed by AAFA for more than 20 years, a reflection of the relevance of course content to fashion industry standards.

Apparel Design and Technology and Fashion Merchandising Accreditation

TAPAC, the Textile and Apparel Programs Accreditation Commission, is the official accrediting organization for baccalaureate programs in textiles, apparel and related TAPAC logoareas. TAPAC strives to ensure outstanding education that advances excellence of the textile and apparel profession. OSU is the third program in the United States achieve this new accreditation. Following an 18-month process to ensure curriculum for the Apparel Design and Technology and Fashion Merchandising degree programs met standards, including knowledge of the global industry, industry processes, aesthetics, the design process, ethics, social responsibility and sustainability issues, critical and creative thinking as well as professional development.
