PhD - Learning, Design and Technology

The elements of Learning, Design and Technology transcend all disciplines. Our Ph.D. program is designed to prepare students for researching, teaching and learning with emerging technologies in rapidly changing environments. Students will develop a sophisticated understanding of how environments are structured to influence individuals’ development, learning and motivation; how educational technologies facilitate teaching and learning in both formal and informal settings; and how both theory development and empirical research advance understanding in the field and lead to improved practice.

  • Prepares graduates for careers as university faculty or other careers with an emphasis on research.
  • 60 hours of coursework including 21 hours of specialization and 15 hours of dissertation
  • Hybrid delivery format using a combination of video conferencing, online coursework and face-to-face meetings on the OSU campus

EdD - Learning, Design and Technology

The EdD in Learning, Design and Technology meets the needs of students who have a strong desire to pursue theoretically-grounded doctoral level study in Learning, Design and Technology but whose career interests lie outside the traditional role of academic researcher. This degree prepares professionals to design, enhance and evaluate human experiences associated with teaching, learning, performance, and emerging technologies in a variety of industries and settings, including business, communication, health care, and government.

  • Prepares professionals with backgrounds in business, communication, health care, and government agencies
  • 60 hours of online coursework including 32 hours of specialization and 10 hours of dissertation
  • A blend of synchronous and asynchronous online format, attending class through video conferencing and accessing materials on OSU’s online learning platform
