First grade classroom teacher of Reading Recovery® Students
"This is my 23rd year of teaching in the classroom. I am very familiar with the Reading Recovery® program. I have seen it work wonders for my first-grade students. I have seen so many struggling readers become successful and on level or beyond after graduating from the Reading Recovery® program. I highly recommend this detailed reading and writing program for the students that need that extra instruction to help them succeed."

“What an honor it has been to become part of the Reading Recovery® Community. My Reading Recovery® Training has given me such valuable insight on how to teach a child to read. Learning to read does not have a one size fits all tag. Reading Recovery® focuses on each individual child, what they can do and builds on that information. I have become a more confident and more effective teacher after my reading recovery training. I love how RR incorporates phonics, encoding, decoding, reading, writing and comprehension all in one lesson! This program has given me knowledge that I will use for years and years to come. Thank you, Reading Recovery!”

“As a Reading Recovery® teacher, I've had the privilege of witnessing the profound impact this program has on first-grade students. It's truly inspiring to see how it equips young students with the essential reading skills they need to succeed academically and beyond.
One of the most notable positive effects of Reading Recovery® is its ability to instill confidence and a love for reading in students who may have initially struggled with reading. By providing personalized, one-on-one instruction tailored to each child's specific needs, Reading Recovery empowers students to overcome obstacles and develop a strong foundation in reading and writing. This personalized approach ensures that each student receives the individualized support necessary to reach their full potential.
The progress I've witnessed among my students has been remarkable. Many of them enter the program reading well below grade level but make significant gains in a relatively short amount of time. Through systematic and intensive intervention, they become more fluent readers, develop a deeper understanding of texts, and enhance their overall comprehension skills. This not only improves their reading performance but it also boosts their self-esteem and motivation to learn.
Reading Recovery® fosters a collaborative relationship between teachers, students, and parents. By involving parents in their child's literacy journey and providing them with strategies to support learning at home, Reading Recovery creates a supportive learning environment both inside and outside the classroom. This collaboration ensures that students receive consistent reinforcement of skills and concepts, further enhancing their progress and success.
Being a Reading Recovery® teacher has been incredibly rewarding, knowing that I am making a difference in the lives of young students every day. The positive effects on these first-grade students are undeniable, as it equips them with the tools they need to become proficient readers and lifelong learners."

"My daughter started first grade as a struggling reader. I, at the time, was a first grade teacher, but was struggling to find the right way to help my daughter be successful while still remaining "mom" instead of teacher. Reading Recovery® was just the program we needed! It was a way for her to take ownership of her reading. This gave her a way to "teach" me all the new ways she was learning about words, both in reading and in writing. Sometimes as parents we need to sit back and let our children show us how great their minds work. She not only became a fluent reader, but she grew a love of reading. She couldn't wait to read her books to me each night all on her own and her cut-up stories never disappointed in the entertainment department. Her nightly homework was always something we looked forward to in the evenings. She is now a sixth grader that still enjoys reading as a hobby and continues to score highly in both reading and writing. I know how a strong foundation helps young readers become successful as a teacher, but I also got to witness it as a parent all thanks to Reading Recovery®."

"Since starting the Reading Recovery® program with [Reading Recovery teacher’s name], Emery has shown a huge improvement in her reading. She now looks forward to reading at bedtime, which used to be a great struggle. The library is now one of our favorite places and Emery is in love with reading! We couldn’t have gotten to this spot without the Reading Recovery® program helping her so much."
