Become an I Speak Advocate


Who are we?

I Speak R4T Advocates are Oklahoma educators who have completed training and are actively supporting R4T students who are college bound or in college. The I Speak badge provides a visual cue to students that this educator is attuned to the journeys of foster youth/alumni and can help.

 

Training Levels

Level 1: Basic

This training is designed to provide basic information for Oklahoma higher education professionals of all types (i.e., administrators, faculty, staff, adjuncts, TAs, GRAs, part-time employees, etc.) and other supportive adults to support foster alumni who are college-bound and/or at Oklahoma college campuses.

Cost: 

  • 1-5 people: $40
  • 6-10 people: $36
  • 11+ people: $30

 

Level 2: Higher Education Professionals’

Prerequisite: Oklahoma higher education professionals may enroll in both Levels 1 and 2 at the same time; access to Level 2 training upon completion of Level 1.

 

This training is designed to provide additional depth of information on serving/supporting foster alumni college students for full-time higher education professionals (i.e., administrators, financial aid staff, admissions/recruitment, student conduct offices, orientation, etc.) employed at Oklahoma college campuses. This level is not appropriate for part-time student/employees, including adjunct faculty, TAs, etc.

Cost:

  • 1-5 people- $10
  • 6-10 people- $8
  • 11+people- $5

 

Level 3: R is for Thursday

Level 3 is expected to be available beginning fall 2020 and will be delivered through a 12-hour comprehensive graduate-level, scholar-practitioner certificate program on foster alumni and other hidden college student populations. More information will be released as it is available.

 

Foster alumni training

This training is for former foster youth or adult (age 18) youth still in care who are planning to attend, currently attending, or graduated from an Oklahoma college or university.

Cost: FREE for foster alumni

 

Paying for Training

Text: Individuals may pay for training using a credit card. Higher education institutions paying for groups of employees (i.e. using volume pricing) may use purchase orders or credit cards. Access to the training site will continue after completion until the end of the fiscal year (June 30).
