Students with disabilities often feel like they don’t belong on a college campus. Research at OSU found that students with disabilities have higher rates of  depression, anxiety, loneliness, and frustration (McMaughan et al, 2021) and research across the United States shows that students with disabilities have higher dropout rates compared to students without disabilities (citation). The good news  - many tools exist to support the academic success of disabled students. These tools help educators create an inclusive, accessible classroom that removes barriers to learning and success for all students across a wide range of experiences, backgrounds, bodies and minds.

Universal Design for Learning

Universal Design for Learning can help you support diverse learners in the classroom. Universal Design for Learning (UDL) stems from Universal Design. Universal Design and UDL have a common end goal, which is  universal access.  But Universal Design focuses on the “built” environment whereas UDL focuses on  learning environments.
